A New York City-based performer, composer/lyricist, and musician originally hailing from the Adirondack Mountains, Sam has appeared at theatrical and musical venues in NYC and across the Northeast, including The Public Theater, The Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, The York Theatre, and 92nd Street Y. His written work has been performed at various theatres in the Adirondacks, at his alma mater Columbia University, and at cabaret venues in New York including the Duplex, Green Room 42, and 54 Below. He is currently a composer/lyricist in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop.

As a stage actor, Sam has performed in regional productions at Cortland Repertory Theater in Cortland, NY; The Barnstormers in Tamworth, NH; The Barn Theatre in Augusta, MI; The Depot Theatre in Westport, NY; Lost Nation Theater in Montpelier, VT; and Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake, NY. Favorite roles include Cosmo Brown in Singin’ in the Rain, Princeton/Rod in Avenue Q, Adam in Tom Stoppard’s Rough Crossing, Chip in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Sancho Panza in Man of La Mancha.

Sam’s musical Existential Questions of the 21st Century, an absurd comedy about the end of the world, was a semi-finalist for the Eugene O’Neill Music Theater Conference in 2018. Other written works include The Show Must Go On, a musical murder mystery podcast written for the students of Anderson University during the Coronavirus pandemic, featuring Broadway guest stars Jill Abramovitz and Aaron Lazar; “The Personals,” a 10-minute musical adaptation William R. Eakin’s short story “Plain Female Seeks Nice Guy” in the southern science fiction collection Redgunk Tales; as well as Bob Hope/Bing Crosby “Road Movie” homage Road to Dannemora and a musical adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, both of which he co-wrote with his mother, Kathy Recchia.

At Columbia, Sam wrote music and lyrics for the Varsity Show, the school’s longest performing arts tradition, and directed As You Like It as King’s Crown Shakespeare Troupe’s 2017 Spring Show, an annual site-specific Shakespeare production that moves the audience location to location throughout the play. He plays trumpet and piano, taps, juggles, and in his spare time, knits.
